In what may come as an important development in strengthening religious and spiritual tourism footfalls in the western state of Rajasthan, the government has inaugurated the newly constructed airport for flight services in Kishangarh, a city in Ajmer district. Ajmer is home to Ajmer Sharif Dargah which attracts devotees from the world. Enhanced air-connectivity is also expected to provide a seamless connect to Pushkar – another religious site with significant international and domestic footfalls. Kishangarh lies roughly half-way between Jaipur and Jodhpur, both key tourist hubs of Rajasthan, hence the new airport will also provide respite to travellers heading to Jodhpur, circumventing Jaipur, cutting short the road journey by around two hours.
Kishangarh airport is a low-cost but advanced airport with facilities of domestic and international airports elsewhere in the country, the minister said. The terminal building has six check-in counters. A four- lane road will connect it to the National Highway-8, a public relation officer of the government said.
The airport was inaugurated very recently by the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha who asserted that the Centre was making efforts to provide better air connectivity to Rajpiyusasthan to boost domestic and foreign tourist arrivals in the state. The minister further added that the government was aiming at providing air connectivity to all major cities of the state. Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje accompanied Sinha at the inauguration ceremony of the airport located nearly 105 km from Jaipur.
