The flag carrier of Italy, Alitalia has made a comeback in to the Indian market. The airline has kick started its India operations after nine years of self-imposed exile with a new direct service between Delhi and Rome. The connection is slated to be operated every day for the entire winter season until 24 March 2018. The first flight from Rome took off recently. The airline is expected to finalise its summer schedule in the coming months, whereas a decision on plying on a year-round basis will be taken at a later stage, perhaps after testing the initial response to the launch. Commenting on the development, the airline’s Chief Commercial Officer Fabio Lazzerini said that India represented a unique opportunity to position Alitalia in a country “which was already becoming more and more important.”
Passengers departing from Delhi, upon arriving at Rome Fiumicino airport, will gain from easy access to 39 cities in Italy, Europe, North Africa and the Americas. The new connection will also help better link important tourist centres in the Europe, including Florence, Pisa, Venice, Paris, and in the USA and Cuba from Rome and New Delhi. Flyers from Delhi with connections to other cities will have a transit team for hassle-free consumer experience.
Alitalia is operating a 250-seat Airbus A330, equipped with exclusive ‘Made in Italy’ amenities and plush cabin interiors. The airline is also offering the best of Italian regional fine dining menu, along with wines from the country’s best estates. Flyers are also being provided with onboard Wi-Fi connectivity for phone calls, Internet and e-mail.
