In the recent years, India has emerged as one of the most crucial and promising tourism markets for Turkey. The number of Indian tourist arrivals, Indian weddings and MICE engagements has grown steadily. Buoyed by the development, Turkey has substantially augmented its media and trade outreach. Not too long ago, the top Turkish envoy, along with other representatives from the embassy, had engaged in an informal one-on-one with a select group of media personnel in the capital. In yet another outreach, aimed primarily at educating the travel trade and cementing the Mediterranean country as the preferred locale for the India outbound, the Turkish Culture and Tourism board in India will be conducting a tourism roadshow and destination workshop. To be held in six cities across India from 8th October to 13th October 2018, the roadshow will cover Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Mumbai.

“India is a very important market and we are aware of the potential it holds in terms of inbound visitor traffic to Turkey. Turkey and India enjoy warm relations and also share a close historical relationship with strong cultural links. We aim to tap the important cities through our six-city roadshow where we will interact with agents and update them about Turkey’s latest offerings,” Deniz Ersöz, Culture and Tourism Counsellor, Turkish Culture and Tourism Office in India said.  He further added that Turkey had hosted more than 32 million international tourists in 2017 while from India the number was 87,000. “This year, from January to July, we recorded a 25% increase in the number of overall tourists. That means we will be hosting 40 million international tourists by the end of 2018. When we look at figures from India, we see a 95% increase for the same period. If this trend continues we will be hosting almost 2 lakhs Indian tourists by the year-end,” he noted.

The six-city promotional roadshow will also have participation from Turkish Airlines, luxury hotels and important delegates and officials from Turkey. The Turkish delegates will interact with agents and share insights on better selling Turkey as a destination in the domestic market.
