In a first, Lemon Tree Hotels, has announced the formal opening of its two new properties, Lemon Tree Premier, Patna and Lemon Tree Hotel, Alwar, marking their entry into these old Indian cities.  Entering Bihar is a significant development and a brave decision, too. In the absence of any significant branded hotels, Lemon Tree’s foray could well turn out be a masterstroke in acquiring a pole-position in the local market.  However, post a blanket ban on liquor consumption pushed by the Nitish government, tourists, especially foreigners are opting for closer by destinations in adjoining destinations in Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh for watering holes. MICE movement has taken a beating too. Industry stakeholders are increasingly preferring Ranchi and Kolkata over Patna for events and conferences, further exacerbating the scenario.

However, Rattan Keswani, Deputy Managing Director, Lemon Tree Hotels and Director, Carnation Hotels exuded confidence on the business prospect in these markets. Signalling the group’s focus on Bihar, and their overall expansion plans across India, he said, “we are delighted to bring the Lemon Tree brand to Patna and Alwar. These hotels are a first for us and present an exciting branded alternative to the city residents as well as our existing customer base.
