Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar has registered his name in the prestigious Guinness Book of World Record by distributing 20000 kilograms of school supplies to less privileged students recently in Udaipur. For the uninitiated, it is his second award under the Guinness Book of World Record.
As per the record citation, under the Shikhsa Porotsahan Abhiyaan, he gave a clarion call to people to collect different materials used for educational purpose, including pencils, erasers, diary, register, storybooks, school bags, water bottles, geometry box, calculator, colour pencil, paint, paintbrush, tiffin box etc., among others. He got the entire 20000 kilograms of material collected at 4 pre-designated centres in the city of Udaipur. Commendably, people made a beeline to donate the material which was then swiftly distributed to students – who were visibly delighted to receive the goodies. Administrators of educational institutes and schools thanked Mr Mewar for his initiative and deeply appreciated his gesture.
Remarkably, this is the first time when such a huge cache of supplies has been collected in a matter of 24 hours. The previous record was held by a Surat-based organisation which had distributed 16,404 kilograms of educational material.
Speaking exclusively to BITB, he emphasised that “his commitment to this cause was 365 days a year.” “Education is the only way to pave any civilization beyond geographical boundaries,” he said. Mr Mewar is on the board of two non-profit educational institutes which has over 3500 students.
Interestingly, Mr Mewar took to social media to reach out to masses and issued the appeal for donations on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and even Whatsapp to further the message.
Recipient of several accolades and honours, he has also recently been awarded “Bharat Gaurav Samman” (India’s pride award) by the British Council.
