Ecotourism Society of India ties up with Tamil Nadu Tourism for a workshop on sustainable tourism

Ecotourism Society of India (ESOI), the national body on sustainable and responsible tourism, has been a frontrunner in the realm of pushing for sustainable and responsible tourism in the country’s tourism landscape. In yet another effort to boost this segment, it has tied up with the Tamil Nadu Tourism board and announced a state level workshop on Sustainable & Responsible Tourism in Chennai on 22nd December 2016.

steve-borgiaThis effort comes at a time when the state of Tamil Nadu is in midst of its preparation to create sustainable and responsible tourism products and their promotion in the coming years. The upcoming workshop aims to enhance the capability of the tourism practitioners towards sustainable tourism practices. It is expected that these practices will not only create a lighter footprint but will also support local communities and conserve the environment.

The principal secretary (Tourism) Govt of Tamil Nadu T.K. Ramachandran shall be delivering the keynote address to the workshop. Harsahay Meena, Commissioner of Tourism & Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) shall deliver the inaugural address and set the  direction .

The workshop has the endorsement of  recognized experts and sustainable tourism practitioners with most eminent speakers such as Steve Borgia, Honorary President ESOI & CMD INDeco Hotels, C.B.Ramkumar, Board member Global Sustainable Tourism Council, Jose Dominic- CMD Casino Group of Hotels , Seema Bhatt – Specialist, Ecotourism, Biodiversity & Climate Change and amongst others, sharing their expertise and views.

Some of the key topics which would be deliberated through the course of the workshop include, sharing international models of best practices, protection of natural and cultural heritage, balancing between conservation and tourism development, need for ecotourism certification and marketability of sustainability practices in the hospitality industry. This workshop is of immense benefit for all tourism service providers including  tourism ,environment and forest officials , tourism industry stake holders, hoteliers, travel operators, apart from NGO’s working in the sector, researchers , educationists, country and town planners, architects, sustainability professionals in the hospitality industry and others.
