Dubbed as India’s largest integrated tourism location, ‘Bhorer Alo’ inaugurated in West Bengal

This could well be the shot in the arm that the West Bengal tourism has been looking for. In what is being dubbed as “India’s largest integrated tourism location”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently inaugurated ‘Bhorer Alo’ at Gajoldoba in Jalpaiguri. Situated some 30 kilometres from Siliguri (a city located in the foothills of the Himalayas, surrounded by tea gardens), ‘Bhorer Alo’ is a judicious mix of diverse components, featuring hotels from different segments, from budget to luxury, besides cycling, camping and boating facility. The project is spread across a whopping 208 acres and will have a 60 acre, a 9-hole golf course at Gajoldoba as well.

Tourist engagements aside, “the integrated tourism location” will be equipped with an institute of hotel management called ‘Arohan’ which bodes well for developing the requisite skilled workforce at the local level. A home for the elderly, a police station to staff the sprawling premises and a health care centre is also slated to be established.

Considered as the “dream project” of the WB CM, she expressed satisfaction at the development, noting that the state had provided training to several oarsmen. “They have been provided with equipment as well. The Bengal Safari is nearing completion. From Jaldapara to Sukna, we have developed many tourist centres. Many new cottages have also been set up,” she said.

Detailing some of the recent initiatives undertaken by the state government, she mentioned that West Bengal had started a new tourism hub at Jharkhali, renovated Bakkhali tourism centre, along with Ganga Sagar, Furfura Sharif and Pathachapari. “A skywalk is coming up at Dakshineshwar. We will start homestay tourism. To promote local handicrafts, we will set up a rural hub. For that, we will give two acres. A panel of folk artists will be created, who will perform here. This will lead to employment and highlight the local culture and traditions. A hotel and helipad will be built here,” she further informed.
