What is generally reserved for VVIP movement and long-haul flights, the national carrier will press into action double-decker Boeing 747-400 for domestic routes. With an eye on catering to the additional traffic in the festive season, the aircraft will be deployed on Mumbai and Kolkata route, beginning mid-October, reported PTI.
With 12 seats in first class, 26 in business and 385 in economy class, the ‘Jumbo’ plane will operate one flight per day each to Kolkata and Mumbai from New Delhi between October 16 and October 21, Air India said in a statement, the news agency mentioned. The airline will also operate two flights a day between Kolkata and Mumbai, between 1st to 11th of November, to meet the Diwali rush.
Incidentally, Boeing 747-400 was first put in the skies in 1968, making it its fiftieth year in operation.
