Air India Express, IndiGo ranked most inexpensive international carriers

A Global Flight Pricing Report prepared by Melbourne-based Rome2rio, a multimodal travel planning site, has ranked Air India Express and low-budget carrier IndiGo as one of the top five inexpensive international airline to fly in the world. The wholly-owned subsidiary of Air India, Air India Express has been placed second in the list. The airline clocks an average cost of USD 0.08 per kilometre and mostly connects Gulf countries and Singapore to Indian cities. IndiGo, with an average cost of 0.10 USD per kilometre, has been ranked the fifth most inexpensive airline providing international connectivity.

The recently released report by Rome2rio was analysed by taking into account the economy class airfares during the first two months of 2018, totalling around 1.5 million price points.

According to media reports, the data was analysed considering the average price per kilometre – with Air Asia X taking the number one spot among the 200 major airlines across continents. Kuala Lumpur based AirAsia X has an average of USD 0.07 per km. Beside these two Indian carriers, Jet Airways and Air India have found themselves in the list. Jet Airways occupies the 12th spot while Air India stands at 13th rank. Incidentally, four out of five top most inexpensive international carriers are based out of Asia – Primera Air and Indonesia AirAsia are the other two carriers in the top five list. Etihad, Ryanair, Qantas, Wow Air and Virgin Australia also found place among the top ten carriers.

Interesting to note, no carriers from the USA or the UK made it to the top ten of the list.
